THE ROLE
As the Tax Director, you will be a strategic partner to the finance and executive leadership team, serving as the organization's key representative on all tax matters. Operating on a global scale, this role is crucial in ensuring timely and accurate filing of regulatory forms and payments across multiple jurisdictions. You will navigate complex international tax frameworks, ensuring full compliance with varying regulations, while proactively identifying and mitigating risks. Your expertise will play a pivotal role in shaping the company's future initiatives, contributing to forward-looking tax strategies that align with our aggressive growth goals. You will provide insightful analysis on regulatory risk and offer recommendations that drive optimal tax compliance across borders.
We are looking for an motivated professional with solid experience in international tax compliance someone who thrives in navigating complex, unfamiliar tax landscapes and is eager to roll up their sleeves to solve challenging problems. If you're passionate about tax strategy and enjoy collaborating with a dynamic leadership team, this is the perfect role for you.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• 5-8 years' experience in international tax planning, execution, and delivery (Located in Canada with strong US experience)
• 4+ years' experience in an accounting firm, and 2-3 years in industry experience working as a tax resource, with a preference for businesses under $200m in gross revenue
• Comfort in preparing and directing tax filing efforts, working with, and reviewing work from external parties
• Capable of conveying complex taxation concepts in a digestible format for the leadership team for use in decision making
• Organized and meticulous ? capable of capturing the details without missing the big picture
• Supervise and review monthly, quarterly or annual tax remittances related to GST/PST/HST, US sales tax, VAT and franchise taxes.
• Self-starter ? unafraid of tackling a problem without explicit, step-by-step direction and motivated to drive to a solution
• Experience in a startup and/or hyper-growth environment
• Ability to pivot quickly, stay calm under pressure, and streamline processes in a fast paced, high growth, and chaotic environment
• Very fast: thinks, speaks, and moves fast while remaining highly detailed and accurate
• Highly adaptable: extremely change ready; brings stability, structure, and profitability to a dynamic environment
• Emotionally grounded: strong EQ (emotional intelligence) and emotional control; knows how to manage hot people and hot environments without breaking a sweat; hustle mentality with strong endurance but is self-managing with their time
