What you'll be doing?
Supporting the business and our divisional offices, our Head Office functions cover all departments from our Executive Board through to our support functions such as Group Design and Technical, HR, Health and Safety, IT, Sales and Marketing, Commercial, Procurement, Group Finance, Corporate Affairs, as well as Legal and Company Secretariat. We also have a specialised function – Barratt Partnerships.
While the work varies from team to team, our key requirements don’t: you must be well organised, extremely helpful and resourceful, and able to use your initiative. You’ll understand that what you do is important, and impacts on your team, the department, and the wider business.
This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to a variety of different areas of Tax in a FTSE 100 housebuilder. You will play a key part in ensuring we meet our obligations across both direct and indirect taxes.
You will work closely with colleagues across the business, building strong working relationships and will be a key point of contact. You will be given the opportunity to grow and develop in the role to make it your own and drive improvements in processes.
VAT, SDLT & CIS compliance
Co-ordinate and submit the monthly VAT returns for all group VAT registrations, including JVs.
Prepare responses to tax authority queries, ensuring VAT liabilities/repayments are paid/received on a timely basis.
Calculate partial exemption and capital goods scheme annual adjustments.
Review of the monthly CIS returns reporting and payments to HMRC.
Manging CIS queries from the business, researching and preparing responses and ensuring a timely response.
Preparing quarterly SDLT reporting.
Corporate Tax & Tax Reporting
Preparation of corporate and partnership tax returns and corporate interest restriction workings. Ensure all tax claims are maximised and filing deadlines are met.
Working closely with advisers to ensure delivery in line with business requirements.
Prepare Residential Property Developer Tax calculations.
Preparing payments on account and managing the Group Payment Arrangement.
Pro-actively manage R&D, Capital Allowances and Land Remediation Relief claims to drive value.
Calculation of annual management charge.
Prepare tax provisions for interim and full-year statutory accounts.
Respond to auditor queries as part of the interim and full year audit.
Calculate cash tax forecasts.
Preparation of total tax contribution report.
Managing the SAO processes.
Advisory
Managing the Group Tax Mailbox on a daily basis, responding to queries promptly, offering a high-quality service to colleagues across the business.
Supporting the Head of Indirect Tax and the Head of Direct Tax and Governance as required.
Dealing with queries and issues as they arise, working closely with colleagues across the business.
Keeping track of changes in legislation and updating the horizon scanning tracker to ensure all relevant changes that impact the business are captured.
Ensure compliance across Non-Resident Landlord, Economic Crime Levy and the Tax Award Scheme.
Identifying opportunities and driving process improvement using technology to improve quality, insight and efficiency.
Preparing responses to tax authority queries and correspondence.
Providing tax training to the business.
What you'll need?
To be successful in the role, we are looking for:
Strong experience gained from practice or industry.
Previous land and construction tax experience is desirable but not essential.
Excellent UK tax technical knowledge.
ACA / ACCA / CTA qualified.
Organised and able to manage multiple work streams, keeping track of where things are up to, prioritising and ensuring things are done in advance of deadlines.
Good attention to detail and delivers to a high standard.
Excellent communication skills, able to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels across the business.
Self-starter, using own initiative to overcome challenges and get things done.
Keen to take responsibility and develop knowledge across different areas of tax.
Keen interest in tax technology, driving change and continuous improvement.
