Job Description
Work Arrangement: Hybrid or onsite in either Camarillo, CA or Richmond, BC. Cross-functional collaboration with finance, accounting, and external tax advisors across multiple time zones.
Position Summary: The Tax Senior will play a key role in managing indirect tax compliance and supporting global tax operations across multiple jurisdictions. This position is responsible for the preparation, review, and filing of sales and use tax, GST, and other indirect tax returns, maintaining compliance calendars, and coordinating with internal stakeholders and external service providers. The role requires strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
U.S. Tax Compliance and Provision
Coordinate and review monthly U.S. sales and use tax returns using Avalara and SAP data.
Maintain and reconcile monthly sales tax workbooks, including self-assessment for Texas use tax.
Review and approve exemption certificates received from customers to ensure validity, completeness, and proper documentation.
Assist tax manager is preparing schedules and workpapers for the US and Canada tax provision.
International Tax Support
Coordinate with external tax advisors for New Zealand tax compliance, including preparation and payment of provisional tax installments.
Retrieve and compile monthly Australia deferred GST reports from the customs portal and ensure timely submission.
Assist with maintaining global compliance calendars for U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand entities.
Support other global indirect tax filings as required.
Canadian Tax Compliance and Audit Support
Assist with Canadian GST/HST filings and related compliance requirements.
Provide documentation and responses for Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) audits and related queries.
Maintain audit correspondence, schedules, and supporting documentation.
Process and Documentation Management
Maintain detailed procedural manuals, workpapers, and tax filing documentation in designated server locations.
Ensure the accuracy and consistency of compliance data across systems.
Assist in automation and process improvement projects, including system implementations and workflow enhancements.
Support periodic renewal and maintenance of tax-related software licenses and subscriptions (e.g., Zip2Tax).
Other Duties
Update and manage the global tax compliance calendar to ensure timely filings and internal deadlines are met.
Coordinate with internal finance and accounting teams for data collection, reconciliations, and approvals.
Provide support for ad hoc tax projects and internal reporting as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Minimum 2–3 years of experience in tax compliance, preferably with exposure to multi-jurisdictional indirect taxes.
Experience with Avalara, SAP, or similar ERP/tax compliance systems is highly preferred.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and general tax compliance tools.

A reasonable estimate of the pay range for this position is USD$82,000 - $120,000 if located in Camarillo, California or CAD$70,000 - $92,000 if located in Richmond, BC. There are several factors taken into consideration in determining base salary, including but not limited to: job-related qualifications, skills, education and experience, as well as job location and the value of other elements of an employee’s total compensation package.
