Job Description

The Tax Specialist role sits within the CFO Division – Finance Team. The Finance Team is responsible for delivering financial reporting, tax, operational accounting, treasury back office and middle office and systems accounting functions for the Great Southern Bank group. The team is accountable for ensuring the delivery, optimisation and continuous improvement of the finance function.

Your impact and contribution:

Prepare and review direct and indirect tax returns, including income tax, GST, FBT and other relevant taxes ensuring timely and accurate lodgement of tax returns and payments
Prepare tax effect accounting calculations and tax disclosures for statutory reporting
Assist with investor tax reporting such as FATCA/CRS & Annual Income Investment Reporting
Support the Tax Manager in delivering timely, accurate and strategic tax advice across a range of business activities
Monitor legislative changes and support their implementation
Identify and manage tax risks within our risk and governance frameworks and support on tax governance activities such as maintaining tax policies, controls and documentation
Partner with Finance, Treasury, People & Culture, Legal and business teams to provide timely and pragmatic tax support as well as liaise with external advisors, auditors and tax authorities as required.
Be a trusted advisor, sharing knowledge and building tax awareness across teams.
Contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives to mitigate process risk, including automation and data quality enhancements

To succeed in this role, you will have:

Minimum 5 years’ experience holding a tax position within a medium to large, chartered accountant firm or large commercial organisation.
Experience in Australian financial services preferable.
Undergraduate degree in Finance (or equivalent)
Professional accounting and/or tax designation (preferred)
Knowledge of corporate tax reporting requirements including income tax, fringe benefits tax and GST
