Primary objective
The Taxation Services Officer performs timely and accurate reporting, undertakes reconciliations, and provides advice to
support Agencies and Government Business Divisions to meet their indirect taxation obligations.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Extract monthly Goods and Services Tax (GST) data and generate relevant reports for client agencies including
reconciling the General Ledger against reports produced for the preparation of Business Activity Statements (BAS).
2. Prepare and analyse Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT), Withholding Tax (WHT) and Payroll Tax (PRT) reconciliations and liability
reports for client agencies and assist with lodgement.
3. Perform data analysis to determine correct tax treatment to ensure adherence with legislative requirements.
4. Provide reporting to agencies on the taxation outcomes including arranging payments and refunds by due dates.
5. Provide advice to clients on basic technical issues and procedures.
6. Prepare and maintain up to date procedures relevant to work unit and assist with projects.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated work ethic and attitude, which emulates DCDD values of being professional, accountable, honest,
respectful and innovative.
2. Demonstrated ability in preparing tax returns such as BAS, FBT and PRT using a range of financial systems including
Excel with sound analytical, reconciliation and reporting skills.
3. Ability to interpret and apply tax legislation when analysing data.
4. Ability to communicate tax matters in plain English.
5. Ability to build productive working relationships with a range of stakeholders and people of diverse cultures.
6. Sound organisational skills with the ability to prioritise work activities with minimal supervision, work under pressure
and meet deadlines with accuracy.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in a Finance related field.
