Overview:

Teacher Assistants, as part of the center's teaching team, help ensure that each child's developmental needs are met. This Teaching Assistant will float to primarily our preschool classrooms but also our infant and toddler classrooms to support exsisting classroom staff when someone is sick or out on vacation.

Programmatic Responsibilities:
• Assist in maintaining a stimulating and nurturing classroom environment.
• Lead classroom activities as requested.
• Help to organize and maintain classroom order, equipment and materials.
• Help complete goals of annual classroom Action Plan.
• Develop warm nurturing relationship with all children.
• Monitor children throughout the day maintaining their safety.
• Assist in food preparation and clean up.
• Assist in child assessment activities and planning for individual children.
• Assist in the implementation of licensing and accreditation requirements.
• Develop/complete annual Professional Development Plan
• All other assigned tasks

Family Communication Responsibilities:
• Maintain an open and supportive communication with families.
• Refer concerns expressed by parents to the Lead Teacher or Teacher.
• Support family involvement in the Center's activities.
• Participate in family events at the Center.
• All other activities as assigned by Center Director of Lead Teacher.

Requirements:
• Must have taken Child Development courses previously
• EEC Preschool Teacher Certified
• EEC Infant and Toddler Teacher Certified would be ideal but is not required

Qualifications:
• Demonstrated ability to successfully complete all job description responsibilities.
• Warm and nurturing personality.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule
• Commitment to agency's mission of supporting low-income families and at risk children.
• High School Diploma
• Must be at least 18 years of age

All Teacher Assistants are required to take 4 Early Childhood Education college courses within the first 18 months of employment. South Shore Stars will pay for the courses and the texts needed.

Reports to: Lead Teacher

Salary Range: $20.15 - $22.00, depending on your years of experience and your certifications that you have obtained
