Position Information
Wanaaring Public School is a small, isolated school serving a diverse rural community. It is a place to succeed, strive and thrive. Wanaaring is a quaint village in north western New South Wales, situated on the Paroo River, 200km west of Bourke. The school aims to provide a quality individualised education for all students in a safe, respectful and stimulating learning environment, where all children can experience success. In 2025 there are 7 students from Kindergarten to Year 5 with approximately 30% students identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. The school staff compromises of a Teaching Principal, School Learning Support Officer, a part time School Administrative Manager and a part time General Assistant. Our school motto is “Boundless Horizons”, and we foster this for students, staff and community.
While the school's focus is primarily on student outcomes in literacy and numeracy, student engagement through a broad range of activities, performing arts, cultural, leadership and sport, lead to learning opportunities beyond the school gate. The school has excellent facilities, which include well–maintained classrooms surrounded by an aesthetically pleasing and rich play environment. The school has a comprehensive library, quality literacy and numeracy resources, and extensive technology for student learning. The partnership with other small schools including Louth Public School supports school improvement effectively through inclusive, respectful and purposeful learning.
As a rurally isolated school there are several incentives that staff can access which may include Incentive transfer after 2 years' service, the Rural Incentive bonus, +0% rental subsidy for Teacher Housing, experienced Teacher bonus, extra Personal Incentive Leave Days along with Locality and Climatic allowances. Wanaaring Public School attracts heat week at the beginning of the year and a mid-term break each term. Currently the school has access to a department car for school business and professional learning.
Wanaaring Public School recognises the Barkindji people as the traditional owners of the land on which the school is built. For further information, please refer to the Annual Report, School Plan and the school’s Facebook page: Wanaaring Public School.
