Kōrero mō te Tūranga About the Role
Improving our Compliance service is a priority for Environment Canterbury. The purpose of this role will be to lead the southern compliance team to deliver on compliance work in Timaru and surrounding areas from the Rangitata to the Waitaki Rivers, from the Mackenzie Basin to the Canterbury coast. You’ll enable the completion of compliance monitoring, incident response, and a range of enforcement responses and fulfil the statutory obligations and operational requirements of Environment Canterbury.
This Role Will Involve
Leading the team to ensure agreement on their work, how they will be measured, and how they work with others in the organisation
Ensuring required training is provided to do their work, including Health, Safety and Wellbeing
Managing performance of the team in the delivery of compliance work, including incident response
The role is permanent, full-time (40 hours per week).
Mōu │ About You
Ideally, you’ll have a tertiary qualification related to regional council regulatory or environmental functions, e.g Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Policy, Natural Resources. You’ll also have a minimum of five years practical experience in a regulatory implementation environment.
Mātau ā-Wheako Experience
At least 5 years’ experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity
Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and compliance best practices, particularly related to the RMA
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
Ability to build social cohesion in teams, demonstrated through positive behaviours when interacting with others
A customer centric work perspective that ensures work is delivered to help our customers, resource users, comply
Experience in effective community engagement and communication
Understanding of te ao Māori and te reo Māori and experience in iwi engagement, or a willingness to learn
