UTHealth Houston's School of Dentistry is hiring for a Dental Assistant I/II to join their team of professionals in the department of Periodontics and Dental Hygiene. The DA will be responsible for assisting residents/students with dental treatment, taking X-rays, setting surgeries, charting, infection control, sterilization, cleaning, and fully stocking operatories, and more. CPR/BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) is highly preferred.

Position Summary:

Perform routine tasks assisting the professional dental staff and students in the examination and prophylactic, therapeutic and surgical treatment of patients. Works under direct supervision.

Position Key Accountabilities:
• Assists in the teaching of dental students, dental assisting students, and dental hygiene students in the principles of four-handed dentistry and dental assistant utilization (DAU).
• Provides chair side assistance to students and faculty.
• Maintains sterile, and prepares equipment, instruments, and supplies within working area.
• Maintains infection control standards.
• Maintains records of patients seen, procedures performed, materials used, and appointments.
• Must be able to respond to emergency situations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:
• Basic office or computer skills.
• Manages Human Resources activities of department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
• Dental Assistant by Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE) required

Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Completion of a recognized dental assistant educational program preferred

Minimum Experience:
None

Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
