Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tech Lead with deep expertise in API design and development to join our growing technology team. You will be responsible for leading the design, implementation, and maintenance of robust, scalable APIs, while also mentoring engineers and collaborating cross-functionally to drive the success of our products.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the architecture, design, and development of RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs.

Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams to understand business needs and translate them into scalable technical solutions.

Guide and mentor a team of backend/API developers, fostering best practices in coding, architecture, and agile development.

Ensure API security, performance, documentation, and versioning practices are adhered to.

Conduct code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and uphold engineering standards.

Oversee API integration with internal systems and third-party services.

Identify and resolve technical debt and bottlenecks in the API architecture.

Contribute to technical roadmaps, architectural decisions, and engineering planning.

Own and improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment strategies for API services.

Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends.

Key Skills & QualificationsTechnical Skills:

Strong proficiency in API development using modern backend languages and frameworks (e.g., Node.js, Java, Python, Go, .NET).

Expertise in RESTful and/or GraphQL API design principles.

Solid understanding of OAuth 2.0, JWT, API gateways, and rate limiting/throttling.

Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.

Proficiency in containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).

Deep understanding of microservices architecture and event-driven systems.

Experience with monitoring, logging, and API analytics (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, etc.).

Familiarity with API documentation tools (Swagger/OpenAPI, Postman).

Leadership & Soft Skills:

Proven experience in leading engineering teams, including mentoring and code ownership.

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Effective communication and collaboration skills, especially in cross-functional teams.

Comfortable making architectural decisions and presenting them to stakeholders.

Experience in Agile/Scrum environments and using tools like Jira, Confluence, Git.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience building APIs at scale in fintech, SaaS, or e-commerce domains.

Experience with API monetization strategies and developer ecosystem enablement.

Contributions to open-source API frameworks or tools.

Job Type: Fixed term contract

Contract length: 12 months

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Brampton, ON

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: From $65.00 per hour
