Details: We are looking for a person with a unique combination of skills and knowledge to fill the role of Technical Advisor in Access Canberra’s Building, Planning and Land Use Regulation branch.
If you have a particular set of skills and qualifications in:-
structural engineering, or
civil engineering with a major in structural engineering, or
building surveying
have excellent knowledge of the National Construction Code and Australian Design standards
an ability to provide high level analysis, translation and communication of complex design matters to stakeholders to drive sound regulatory decision making

Eligibility/ Other Requirements:
Mandatory
Minimum qualification of a bachelor’s degree in structural engineering or a civil engineering degree with a major in structural engineering and be registered, or ability to be registered in the ACT under the Professional Engineers Act 2023
Or be
Eligible to be licensed as a principal building surveyor under the Construction Occupations (Licensing) (Qualifications – Builder and Building Surveyor Licence) Declaration 2019 (No. 2)
Hold a relevant accreditation, or ability to obtain accreditation with a professional body (Eg Certified Practicing Engineer by Engineers Australia) or be Eligible for Level 1 accreditation under the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors National Accreditation Framework or equivalent
Desirable
Minimum of 5 years of recent experience at a senior level undertaking structural design and inspection of various Class 2 to * building classifications, with experience with, or strong working knowledge of, post-tension and reinforced concrete, steel and timber design
or
Minimum of 5 years of recent experience at a senior level undertaking building application assessment and approval and all relevant site inspections of class 2-9 building classifications under the Building Code of Australia, particularly with medium-high-rise commercial and residential buildings
Note: An order of merit will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill future identical vacancies over the next 12 months. Please note, this position is in a workplace designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk.
