Job Description
Worker Type:
Permanent
Here at BNZ, it's about more than just banking. We work together in an agile, energising environment to create innovative solutions through our promise "If you can imagine a better future, let's find a way."
We support wellbeing, flexible working and have a generous leave offering. There is the opportunity for growth, learning and career development. No two days are the same.
We’re looking for a Transact Specialist to join our AWS Cloud Infrastructure team, supporting our Transact platform as we continue to modernise BNZ’s core banking ecosystem. This role plays a key part in ensuring our cloud based services are resilient, secure, scalable, and ready to support the next phase of our transformation.
Mo te Tūranga | About the Role
We sat down with our Platform Manager, and they let us know the following about the role:
What will you do day to day?
Take ownership of well-defined features or technical problems, driving them to completion in a timely and reliable way. Contribute to production support and on-call activities to help maintain system reliability and respond to operational issues.
Apply solid engineering principles to design, implement, test, and maintain code or infrastructure that is performant, reliable, and easy to understand.
Break down moderately complex problems into clear, achievable tasks. Seek input when needed and contribute ideas to help others do the same.
Write code and design systems that are resilient and observable. Surface risks early and participate in code reviews and quality processes to maintain standards.
Work effectively with teammates and cross-functional partners. Communicate clearly and constructively and contribute to a positive team culture.
What projects will you be involved in?
Supporting BNZ’s cloud transformation initiatives, ensuring our Transact services and pipelines are stable, secure, and modernised as part of our evolving hybridcloud ecosystem.
Leading cloud engineering uplift work across CI/CD, IaC, monitoring, alerting and environment automation to support the broader Core Transformation programme.
Ensuring seamless collaboration between project delivery and businessasusual operations as we scale cloudbased services and adopt new cloud-native patterns.
What’s exciting about this opportunity?
You’ll play a key role in shaping how BNZ evolves its cloud engineering practices — including IaC standards, automation frameworks, cloud operations, and resilience uplift.
You’ll influence how BNZ designs, runs, and sustains its core banking environments, playing a key role in our long-term core banking vision.
You’ll work alongside experienced engineers passionate about delivering high-quality, reliable services for millions of customer interactions every day.
What’s challenging about this opportunity?
Balancing cloud stability with innovation — keeping services reliable while continuously improving them.
Ensuring strong engineering discipline while evolving patterns, tools, and practices across IaC, automation and operational engineering.
Managing complex stakeholder relationships across delivery squads, vendors and technology platforms.
What skills are required for this role?
We are looking for someone with experience in support and engagement with functional stakeholders, in the way of operations. You will also bring:
The ability to work in a DevOps and Agile structure.
Proficiency working in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) - including Terraform, Jenkins and other CI/CD tools.
Experience in developing, testing and maintaining multi-tier applications on Cloud Infrastructure (AWS).
The ability to triage, analyse and problem solve incidents through monitoring and observability services such as Dynatrace, Splunk, ServiceNow.
What attributes will this person display in order to be successful in this role?
Work across the functional stakeholders, including engagement at working groups, Platforms, and wider Technology to tease out details, assist with scoping support functions, and supporting materials for customers and internal service suppliers to enable the delivery of optimal solutions.
Own requirements management including decisions on conflicting requirements across projects or programmes of work. Own effective change control and clarification processes relating to requirements.
Identify causes of loss or risk and take immediate and appropriate action to minimise impact.
