Technical Writer with DITA skills & API
About: We are looking for a Technical Writer to join our dynamic content team and help build the next generation of world class content for our customers. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical writer with 3-8 years of experience in writing about both hardware and software products. We’re looking for someone with experience in FrameMaker, ArborText, DITA/XML authoring tools, Motif CMS. They must have strong, firsthand technical writing expertise on a variety of document deliverables including user manuals, administration guides, configuration guides, release notes, installation manuals, and technical drawings. They must be at ease working in an agile environment with little supervision. This person should embody a passion for continuous improvement and results-driven documentation development.
Key Responsibilities:
• Gather information and requests from, and foster excellent working relationships with, subject matter experts (such as engineers, quality assurance, software developers, product managers, and technicians).
• Consider all aspects of a document request. Anticipate potential downstream issues that were not considered by others.
• Develop new and/or revise existing content as necessary and on-time, based on the request.
• Work closely with team and manager to triage workload and priorities, while keeping track of upcoming delivery dates.
• Work closely with Program Management teams to keep track of upcoming changes and release dates (Project Management)
• Ensure content is accurate (for example, validate information accuracy, peer review others’ content, and follow review processes).
• Self-manage tasks, information flow, and reporting on progress as per agreed upon timelines.
Requirements/Qualifications:
• Technical writing experience (software and/or hardware) with knowledge of relevant content development tools.
• Bachelor’s degree, certificate in Technical Writing, or equivalent professional experience. An engineering degree is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail, strong personal organization, collaboration, and time management skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with team members (face to face and through e-mail).
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and challenging work environment with very tight deadlines.
• Ability to be creative and open-minded when approaching problems.
• Proven ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Proven professional attitude toward work assignments, team members, and end users.
• Positive attitude toward change and late-stage project scope updates (which often are constantly changing until the last second).
• Markup language experience (such as HTML, XML, DITA XML, or SGML).
• Structured authoring tool experience (such as oXygen, XMetaL, structured FrameMaker, or Arbortext Editor).
• Content Management System (CMS) experience
• Experience with fast-paced and dynamic Software release cycles.
• Documentation strategy and architecture experience.
• Style guide usage experience (Simplified Technical English, MSTP, Chicago Manual of Style or customer specific style guide).
