Technical Writer
Role Overview:
The Information Experience team writes technical documentation for FireEye products to support our customers in preventing, detecting, and responding to cyber threats and attacks. Our goal is to create targeted, task-based documentation based on the roles of the customers who deploy, configure, and use our products. We collaborate closely with Engineering and QA and work in step with them as part of the software development lifecycle. We work hands-on with product features to validate and write conceptual, procedural, and reference content.
As a successful part of our team, you will use your passion for learning new technology to be able to quickly apply what you learn to complete your assignments on time and to a high level of quality. Your attention to detail and excellent writing skills enable you to thrive in a fast-paced environment with sometimes overlapping releases. You are adept at adjusting to new priorities and taking on additional assignments, and work well independently or collaborating with multiple content contributors. You use your tenacity in seeking out information to gather information from functional specs and other source information when available, take the initiative to fill in gaps in your knowledge, and ask questions of engineers and QA to get feedback and clarify your understanding of features.
What You Will Do:
• Write complete and accurate documentation for FireEye security software
• Create various deliverables, including Release Notes, Administration Guides, User Guides, Deployment Guides, and online and context-sensitive help
• Use established standards and style to produce clear, concise, and maintainable documentation
• Participate in periodic product team meetings and work as part of the software development lifecycle to produce documentation to be delivered as part of the products
• Collaborate with the User Experience team and Engineering to contribute content for user interface text such as labels, descriptions, messages, and built-in engagements
• Continously develop your technical and writing skills and help to mentor other team members
• 5+ years writing highly-technical documentation in an enterprise software development environment
• Proven ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and create highly usable, effective documentation
• Experience authoring topic and task-based documentation in XML or HTML
• Experience with MadCap Flare, Paligo, or DITA using Oxygen or XMetaL or similar tools
• Experience using conditional text, variables, snippets or fragments, and other single-sourcing technical writing features and techniques
• Experience using source control and build management tools or other content management tools that enforce version control and generate deliverables in multiple output formats
Additional Qualifications (Preferred):
• Experience working on a global team and communicating across multiple time zones
• Experience writing in American English
• Experience writing for security or networking products
