Staff Information Developer (IC4):
What we are looking for:
You are a technical writer with good experience in creating documentation for cloud and SaaS products. You will work with a team of product engineers, test engineers, GUI engineers, product managers, and support and sales engineers to create the required documentation. You come with very strong technical documentation skills that helps to convert the complex information into simple words.
Works on documentation of diverse scope where you are required to research and analyze variety of factors and often times collaborate, interact, and communicate with team members within and outside of the department.
Position Overview:
As part of the Cloud Software Group documentation team, you play an important role by contributing to the overall user experience and product adoption. We extensively use feedback mechanisms, SEO techniques, and visitor analytics and take concrete actions for a superior user experience. You will be expected to demonstrate the ability to multitask, work on documentation of diverse scope where your research and analysis skills of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
As part of the project deliverable, we collaborate with developers to come up with product documentation, blogs and create end-to-end use cases to drive product adoption. To achieve this, we use industry-standard docs-as-code infrastructure (Markdown/GitHub/Bitbucket) to collaborate and deliver documentation at a rapid pace in an Agile environment.
Roles and Responsibilities:
• Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Internal and external contacts often pertain to company plans and objectives.
• Work as a sole contributor. When creating content, expected to complete significant writing tasks with little supervision and editing required.
• Research—participates in project-level meetings to ensure a thorough understanding of the software goals.
• Cross-pollination with other writers of technical information – may involve cross-project, cross-site or cross-department liaison.
• Views the document set together, and takes action from a global project or team perspective.
• May be assigned tasks that require investigating and proposing and driving through solutions to problems facing the Pubs team. Expected to evaluate options, propose solution, and drive recommended solution to completion.
• Determines methods and procedures on new assignments.
• Identifies and suggests solutions to resource problems when they occur.
• Work simultaneously on multiple key projects.
• Be the first customer. Try out features on your own before documenting it for the customer.
• Should be able to learn new products and technologies quickly and have the versatility to move between projects.
• Should be highly organized, can work independently in a fast-paced environment, and produce documentation deliverable with frequent deadlines.
• Should have an eye for detail, and a non-negotiable attitude towards creating quality documentation.
• Well versed with UI / UX writing and content design
• Author continues to develop in a number of areas, including:
• With coaching, pilots change initiatives within the department.
• With coaching, comes up with options based on good analysis of business needs when problems arise and is expected to become familiar, competent, and supportive of this skill to progress.
• The development of flexible and imaginative solutions based on ROI, and execution and follow-through of solutions in a collaborative way.
• Adjusts communication and behavior to work with others. Focus on constructive communication and “works the issue.”
• Negotiates with peers and managers outside of the immediate team.
• Identifies and escalates performance issues when they occur on a project team.
• Teamwork - Articulates support for wider change (though response is still largely Pubs focused).
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, or Engineering.
• At least 10+ years as a technical writer in product development organizations.
• Should be able to learn new products and technologies quickly and have the versatility to move between projects.
• Should be highly organized, can work independently in a fast-paced environment, and produce documentation deliverable with frequent deadlines.
• Should have an eye for detail, and a non-negotiable attitude towards creating quality documentation.
