Job Description
Ensures effective allocation of Perfusionists in the absence of Chief in such a way that procedures do not suffer.
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Prepares documentation as required by the profession and the department
Participates in cardiac surgical procedures that require special techniques.
Organizes academic programmes for the perfusionists as well as the student trainees appointed
Co-ordinates with other sections of CVTS Department for optimum handling of cases as well as care to post-operative patients.
Monitors and observes the operation of the heart lung machine and the patients' physiologic parameters; makes adjustments as necessary to maintain adequate perfusion
Keeps a watch on the overall maintenance of equipment and expensive single-use devices existing in the department.
Directs, and / or assists in the set up, cleaning, sterilization, testing and operation of the Heart Lung Machine and other related equipment used in cardiac surgical procedures
Maintains department records, reports and files as required.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programmes, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops
Attends meetings as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the Consultants as required
