Opportunity Snapshot:
The Technology Domain Manager role offers an exciting opportunity to lead and shape the technical direction within the Technology HI department at BUPA. This position empowers you to define and maintain a clear technical vision for a specific domain, ensuring the quality, performance, and security of applications and environments. By collaborating with business and technology stakeholders, you will drive the adoption of modern engineering practices and oversee domain-level project delivery, with ownership of application squads to meet business objectives.
Additionally, the role provides the chance to mentor and develop a high-performing team, foster knowledge sharing, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. With the flexibility to operate in agile delivery environments, this position is ideal for a dynamic and experienced technology leader seeking to make a meaningful impact.
Your Contribution:
Technical Leadership: Define the domain’s technical vision, resolve complex decisions, and ensure high-quality outcomes. Champion CI/CD, automated testing, and manage technical debt.
Design & Architecture: Collaborate with architects and engineers to embed sound design practices, applying principles like domain-driven design for scalable, maintainable solutions.
Asset & Environment Management: Optimise architecture and cloud usage, manage environments, and ensure patching and risk mitigation.
Automation & Deployment: Build and evolve delivery pipelines, overseeing infrastructure and leveraging vendor capabilities.
Security: Apply secure design principles and OWASP standards, working with security teams to protect data and systems.
Coaching & Capability Building: Mentor developers, promote knowledge sharing, and uplift engineering capability and Developer Experience (DX).
Agile Delivery: Foster empowered, cross-functional teams aligned to agile and product delivery models.
People Leadership: Align team capacity with business needs, support career development, and enable talent mobility.
Project Oversight: Lead domain-related delivery activities, balancing strategic planning with hands-on execution.
Qualifications and training
5+ years of hands-on experience designing, building, deploying, and operationalising technology solutions within cross-functional software delivery teams.
Agile, Lean for Software Development, Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, DevOps and are familiar with a range of digital tools
Demonstrated success in managing technology systems and applications that deliver high reliability, performance, and feature quality.
Active contributor to codebases, collaborating closely with teams on complex implementation details, integration patterns, and technical uplift through practices like pairing, code reviews, and design sessions.
Broad technical expertise across multiple platforms, including programming languages, deployment and testing tools, infrastructure patterns, and application configuration and management.
Proven ability to build and develop high-performing engineering teams, with experience in recruitment, coaching, and career development.
Skilled in navigating matrixed environments, effectively brokering outcomes through collaboration with peers and stakeholders.
Strong track record of driving continuous improvement initiatives that enhance application performance, solution quality, and team effectiveness.
Capable of setting and communicating a clear technical vision, with the flexibility to operate in both agile and traditional delivery environments depending on team and application needs. Excellent communication skills to align teams and stakeholders
Approachable demeanour with an ability to resolve conflicting priorities and emergencies in a considered manner
Capability and willingness to enable others to become the best versions of themselves and to grow and develop
