The Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level in the field of Microbiome and Mucosal Immunology. This position is open to applicants holding Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Research Excellence, Diversity, and Independence (REDI) early career transition awards.

Qualifications include a PhD (or equivalent) in Immunology and postdoctoral research training. A record of research/scholarly activity, as demonstrated by grant funding, national/international presentations, and peer-reviewed research publications, is required. Applications are especially encouraged from candidates who have investigated the interplay between the immune system and the microbiome, with a particular interest in innate immunity, immune system development, and the implications of these processes in health and disease. We seek outstanding candidates who will incorporate in their research program in areas such as gut microbiome-immune system interactions at mucosal surfaces, developmental immunology with emphasis on host-environment crosstalk, the role of immunometabolism in regulating immune responses, and mechanistic studies involving gnotobiotic mouse models to interrogate host-microbiota dynamics.

The successful candidates will join a dynamic group of researchers who are engaged in the university¿s transdisciplinary research strategy and will occupy laboratory space within the Calvin, Phoebe and Joan Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases in the Cumming School of Medicine. The Institute and School of Medicine are home to several excellent core research facilities that the applicant would be expected to integrate into their research program.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop a vigorous and independent externally funded research program within a dynamic, collaborative and multidisciplinary environment. The position provides 75% of time protected for research and will include expectations to contribute to teaching (undergraduate and/or graduate) and trainee supervision.
