About The Role

The Territorial Media Officer/Digital Communications Adviser plays a vital role in lifting The Salvation Army's public profile and mitigating risk through effective media and crisis management. Based at the Territorial Headquarters in Wellington, this role is responsible for the day-to-day management of media engagement with internal and external stakeholders across the territory, creating digital content, and ensuring clear, strategic communication across various platforms. The role is essential for ongoing organisational strength and future growth, allowing The Salvation Army to continue to carry out its mission of caring for people, transforming lives and reforming society by God's power.

What Will Your Responsibilities Be

Develop and implement an annual media plan to promote The Salvation Army's achievements.

Manage media engagement, respond to media inquiries, and provide best practice advice.

Prepare and distribute media releases and statements.

Monitor media coverage and provide reports on key events.

Support crisis communication planning and execution.

Report on key Salvation Army news events and write news for our territorial magazine and digital channels.

Create and manage digital content for TSA's online platforms.

Provide media management best practice advice and advise internal teams on how best to engage with media.

Capture and edit photographs and videos to support communication efforts.

Collaborate with internal teams to craft compelling digital narratives.

Our Ideal Candidate Will

Hold a tertiary degree in Journalism, PR or Communications, with at least five years of experience in media or a related field.

Align with The Salvation Army's mission and values.

Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Have strong relationship management and strategic thinking abilities.

Demonstrates a strong commitment to te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Be skilled in writing, proofreading and adapting content for different audiences.

Understand legal requirements for publishing and ethical reporting.

Have strong time management and the ability to work under pressure.

Be proficient in media monitoring, photography and video editing.

Hold a current New Zealand driver licence.

Possess experience with Wordpress, Adobe Creative Suite and Canva (preferred).

This role is permanent/full time and hours worked will be 37.5 per week.

The starting salary for this role will fall between $87,000 and $+2,000.
