Band 4 Therapy Technical Instructor
Are you an experienced therapy assistant with an interest in inpatient rehabilitation? Consider joining our friendly and forward thinking team where you will be supported by experienced physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and the wider multidisciplinary team to develop/ enhance a range of generic rehabilitation skills and competencies to assist with the treatment of our adult inpatients.
This post is for Capetown & Canterbury wards on the Chase Farm Hospital site and there is potential for rotation to our sister unit - Magnolia just a short distance away on the St Michael's site.
Capetown ward provides inpatient rehabilitation and short term health stepdown for adults and older people presenting with a variety of clinical conditions including after Orthopaedic surgery, decreased mobility after a fall, exacerbation of a long-term condition, recovery from acute medical problems and deconditioning following an extended hospital stay. Many of our patients have multiple pathologies and complex needs that require comprehensive assessment and close working with the multi-disciplinary team to support recovery and discharge planning.
Our therapy services are supported by senior therapy clinician as well as an Integrated Therapy Lead . This is an exciting time to join us as we integrate rehabilitation services across our wards to develop a streamlined patient pathway including offering a 7 day service.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be an integral member of the Inpatient rehabilitation team & MDT.
This service provides short term Inpatient nursing and therapy services to patients admitted for rehabilitation, reablement and recovery promoting independence and encouraging integration back to the community. The post holder will provide therapy assessments and interventions within the remit of their role to inpatients under the supervision of the senior therapy clinicians within the team.
The post holder will be required to support the delivery of rehabilitation and recovery programmes including individualised and group based therapeutic sessions and education / enabling programmes and also to visit patients in their own homes to carry out prescribed treatment and assess for and provide appropriate mobility aids and equipment directly or by prescription.
The post holder will work alone with access to a qualified therapy team member for support and supervision as required.
The post holder may be required to work at various sites as part of the role to support Inpatient services , including out in the community in people's homes and also be part of a 7-day therapy service as directed by the Integrated Therapies Lead.

To undertake clinical work delegated by the qualified therapy staff including Physiotherapist, Occupational therapist and at times by a Speech & Language therapist.
To be responsible for a designated caseload of patients.
To work effectively as a member of a team in providing a programme of ward based therapeutic activities- individual & group based.
To contribute to all stages of the therapeutic process including: -

o Completing a wide range of interventions including: - giving therapeutic advice; mobility, transfers , functional , ADL based rehabilitation programmes, enabling self-management of conditions through patient and carer education, home assessments and home based therapy programmes, equipment assessment, prescription and safe use within the ward based as well as home environment.
o Evaluating patient progress through regular re-assessment and ensuring continuous progression by graded activity through a 1:1 or groups based approach.
o Contribute to formal therapy assessments and provide feedback.
o Review of patients after completion of minor adaptations to home environment.
o Discharge planning including completion of appropriate referrals and reports, home visits and follow up visits as directed by the qualified therapy staff.
