Tolerance Analysis Engineer
Summary
Mechanical System Tolerance Analysis Engineer who will be responsible for performing comprehensive tolerance analysis on design geometries to ensure our products meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and manufacturability. This role requires a deep understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), finite element analysis (FEA), and statistical analysis methods.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform Tolerance Analysis:
Conduct detailed linear and non-linear tolerance stack-up analysis on existing device designs.
Perform worst-case and statistical tolerance analysis using advanced simulation methods.
Utilize GD&T to specify allowable variations for critical dimensions and features.
Develop and Validate Models:
Create or revise detailed 3D CAD models with accurate dimensioning and tolerancing.
Support performing finite element analysis (FEA) to understand the impact of tolerances on structural and functional behavior.
Support conducting thermal and stress analysis to evaluate the effects of environmental conditions.
Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams:
Work closely with design engineers, manufacturing engineers, quality assurance, and other stakeholders to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability.
Participate in regular design reviews and provide input on tolerance-related issues.
Documentation and Reporting:
Document all steps, assumptions, methods, and results of the tolerance analysis.
Update engineering drawings with finalized GD&T specifications.
Prepare comprehensive reports detailing tolerance analysis outcomes and recommendations.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
3+ years of experience in mechanical tolerance analysis and GD&T application.
Proven experience with 3D CAD modeling software (SolidWorks preferred.).
Experience with tolerance analysis tools (CETOL 6, 3DCS) and FEA software (ANSYS etc.).
Familiarity with statistical analysis software (Minitab) is a plus.
Strong understanding of GD&T principles and practices.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.,
