About the job
In this role, you will:
Provide technical expertise in areas of capacity analysis, collision analysis, roadside safety, intersection traffic control (e.g. signal systems, roundabouts), signing and pavement markings, illumination, traffic impact studies, traffic data collection and analysis, legislation and associated regulations that apply to traffic engineering
Monitor and analyze existing and future traffic operations to identify capacity and/or safety deficiencies and to develop countermeasures
Conduct on-site investigations to assess traffic operations
Review development proposals, traffic impact and planning studies, and highway designs for safety and efficiency
Prepare and review signing plans, sign details and pavement marking layouts
Respond to internal and external inquiries, and work with internal and external partners
Provide technical input to resolve safety and operational issues within the region
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G driver's licence or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
Traffic Engineering Knowledge
You have:
Knowledge of transportation planning, engineering and technology (e.g. traffic characteristics, products, devices, traffic engineering management strategies, highway design and construction/maintenance practices)
Knowledge of traffic operations engineering to interpret and relate engineering plans and drawings to driver behaviour and traffic operations
Knowledge of traffic data collection, processing and projection techniques
Knowledge of relevant sections of provincial legislation (e.g. Highway Traffic Act, Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Municipal Act, Motorized Snow Vehicles Act, Off-Road Vehicles Act)
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills
You have:
Research, analytical and problem solving skills to evaluate existing or potential traffic operational problems and develop solutions
Effective time management skills to organize/prioritize work in order to meet established deadlines
Interpersonal and Communication Skills:You have:
Proven interpersonal skills to liaise with, and provide technical advice and information to clients
Communication and presentation skills to prepare/present technical reports and general correspondence
Computer Skills
You have proficiency with computer and software programs (e.g. relevant traffic engineering software, AutoCAD, word processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail), access and analyze traffic data, conduct simulations and prepare drawings/graphics and reports.
