About The Role
In this role you will assist in sourcing and developing a merchandise range in designated departments and play a key role in the implementation of merchandising strategies.
Supported by the Category Manager, as a Trainee Buyer you will participate in the Bunnings Trainee Buyer Program, this program has been designed as a pathway to a buyer role, consisting of various experiences and education that is relevant to building your capability.
What’s Involved
Set the merchandise range / assortment for a designated department within the strategies and brand architecture of the category
Continually seek out opportunities to lower costs and deliver breathtaking value to customers
Negotiate product prices and volumes with suppliers
Understand the competitive landscape both locally and globally for the designated category departments
Regularly visit, check, and assess competitor product assortments and pricing to identify opportunities and ensure EDLP
Ensure that department and product specific promotional programs are developed and implemented to support buying plans
Develop annual business plans outlining product, pricing, and marketing strategies consistent with the broader category and business objectives
Negotiate favourable supplier trading terms designed to grow sales mutually and improve profitability
Ensure new products are compliant with all regulatory and other requirements
Who We’re Looking For
Our ideal candidate will bring a broad understanding of merchandising, retail operations and sales forecasting to the role in order to successfully collaborate and partner with various stakeholders across the business and be open to learning and continue developing.
You’ll Need
Experience within a similar merchandise or leadership role along with excellent presentation, written and verbal communication.
Degree or Diploma in Marketing/Commerce area an advantage
Exposure and understanding of seasonal/ imported product categories
Experience in managing multiple internal and external relationships
Strong negotiation, planning and organisational skills
Proficient with MS word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Accuracy and a high level of attention to detail
