We have an opportunity for a Trainee Line Mechanic (Transmission) to join Downer’s team based in Taupō .
In this role, you’ll work alongside experienced Line Mechanics and Supervisors, learning the skills required to support the construction, maintenance and fault diagnosis/rectification of transmission network equipment and installations. You’ll complete required training and study towards registration and a practising certificate, while gaining valuable hands-on experience in the field.
You’ll be supported through structured development, additional training as agreed, and exposure to a variety of work activities. Safety is central to everything we do, and you’ll play an active role in promoting Zero Harm, working safely, and contributing positively to a strong team culture.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys practical, outdoor work and wants to build a long-term career in the electricity industry.

You’re motivated, reliable and keen to learn. You enjoy working as part of a team, take safety seriously, and are committed to developing your skills and knowledge over time.
You will bring:
• Level 1 (School Certificate) passes in English and Maths
• Current Class 1 driver’s licence (minimum restricted) with a clean driving record
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• A positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to learn
Desirable
• An interest in the electrical industry or completion of a pre-trades course
• Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual work in outdoor and challenging conditions
