Job Summary
Maintains current and accurate procedures and practices and maintains an up-to-date data dictionary and daily operations manual. Performs a variety of data collection activities from direct chart abstraction and enters into a comprehensive computerized data management system. Liaises between administration, quality department and trauma stakeholders to provide reports on a scheduled and ad hoc basis. Collects trauma data for injury research, prevention and quality improvement tracking. Assures accuracy and confidentiality in the handling of all trauma registry related matters and is concerned with and active in the improvement of Trauma Program within the facility.
Job Requirements
Education and Work Experience:
• High School Education/GED or equivalent: Preferred
• Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
• Completed an ICD-10 course or an ICD-10 refresher course every 5 years: Required within one year of hire
• Accrue at least 24 hours of trauma-related CE during the verification cycle: Required within one year of hire
• Participate in and pass AAAM's Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) course for the version used by Cerner: Required within one year of hire
Licenses/Certifications
• Trauma Registrar Certification: Preferred
• Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) certification: Preferred
Facility Specific License/Certifications
• Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQI BLS) certification: Required
• Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS): Required
• ICD_CM_PROFICIENCY (AAPC-CPB): Required
Essential Functions
• Performs accurate data abstraction and data entry. Reviews and updates daily trauma log. Identifies all reportable cases for inclusion into the trauma registry. Cross checks with other systems to ensure capture of all trauma patients. Updates trauma log and provides missing data elements in the log and in the registry as information becomes available.
• Accountable for the integrity of the information extracted and input into the trauma registry. Reviews and updates daily trauma log. Identifies all reportable cases for inclusion into the trauma registry. Cross checks with other systems to ensure capture of all trauma patients. • Responsible for gathering information and preparing reports. Maintains pertinent meeting minutes as requested. Provides overall support for the trauma office.
• Maintains and adheres to strict schedules for reporting and other regulatory requirements.
• Participates in the trauma performance improvement (PI) program through attending daily trauma rounds, assists with identifying issues or trends when abstracting charts or through other means. Brings PI issues to the attention of direct leadership for direction on resolution. Tracks and prepares reports of all PI issues identified.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
