The successful candidate(s) will become part of Jacobs’ tunnel engineering team working on planning, designing, and constructing tunnels and other underground structures across the US. This position offers the opportunity to grow personally and professionally with each project. Jacobs’ Midwest Area tunnel group designs underground projects and supports construction. Recent projects and roles include
• Design and construction of tunnels and caverns by TBM, drill and blast, and SEM methods
• Design of microtunnels and EPB TBM tunnels.
• Design and consulting for major upgrade to major US infrastructure projects
• Engineering support for major tunnel construction projects
Representative Duties and Responsibilities
• Works under supervision of experienced tunnel engineers
• Maintains effective communications with the engineering team and clients
• Evaluates and characterizes ground conditions and geotechnical parameters
• Performs numerical modeling for excavation design and ground behavior predictions
• Performs calculations to design excavation support and linings and shoring systems
• Prepares design drawings and assist in specifications preparation
• Prepares technical reports and presentations to present findings and recommendations
• Reviews contractor construction submittals
• Observes and reports on construction activities and ground conditions during construction.
• Performs field investigation as needed by the project.
Here's what you'll need
• Bachelor of Science in Civil, Geological, or Mining Engineering or related engineering field from an ABET accredited program.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to support and work with multi-disciplinary teams on complex infrastructure projects
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification or on track to obtain one
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Ideally located in Chicago or St. Louis or willing to relocate to St. Louis to be a part of a long term tunnel design and construction program.
Ideally, Here’s What You Will Also Have
• Masters of Science in Civil, Geological, or Mining Engineering or related engineering field
• 7+ years of progressive experience
• Familiarity with the use of CADD tools, such as AutoCAD
• Experience preparing engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications
• Experience with numerical modeling and training on numerical modeling software
• Knowledge of structural or geotechnical specialty software

The base salary range for this position is $85,000.00 to $135,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
