Description
The AMS Services’ main mandate is to offer services and resources to the membership which are in significant demand and aim to further the well-being of the membership as a whole.
Each of these Services are run by a Coordinator, and in some instances, with the help of Assistant Coordinator(s).
Each of the Assistant Coordinators will be overseen on a daily basis by the Senior Manager, Student Services, a full-time, permanent, non-student role as well as their Services Coordinator, a part-time student role.
The Tutoring Assistant Coordinator will be primarily responsible for staff management, as well as manage a diverse portfolio of responsibilities and have the opportunity to expand their experience in the execution of academic programs, organization of workshops and creation of promotional strategies for a useful and widespread student service at the AMS, as well as making the Service more accessible.
AMS Tutoring provides free drop-in tutoring and tutoring by appointment. These sessions are staffed by friendly, helpful, and academically outstanding UBC students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with management of tutors, including hiring, training, and scheduling
Maintain communication with tutors and students through email
Survey design, data entry and analysis
Market and represent AMS Tutoring at promotional events
Hold and attend regularly scheduled office hours
Coordinate the hiring and training of Tutoring Supervisors and Tutors
Assist in planning and executing events providing peer academic assistance (exam review sessions, online concept tutorials, etc.)
Assist with regular updates of the AMS Tutoring website and program calendar
Assist with the tracking and administration of payroll for all group and appointment tutors
Liaise between AMS Tutoring and group tutoring locations as needed
Represent the Tutoring Coordinator at meetings as needed
Other duties as assigned from time to time
Qualifications:
Must be a currently registered UBC Student
Enthusiastic team player with strong work ethic
Experience in working with different personalities and background
Transparent and clear communicator
Strong leadership and organizational skills
Able to work independently with minimal supervision
Background in academic involvement and educational/learning programs an asset
Innovative and creative with an interest in improving the Service
Eligibility: Must be a currently enrolled student at UBC Vancouver, eligible for the Work Learn program.
Experience Level: Current Students in an Undergraduate Program, Current Students in a Masters Program, Current Students in a PhD Program
