Job Overview

The Urban Sketcher/Contract Consultant will be responsible for producing high-quality urban sketches that support the visualization of design concepts in various urban development projects. The sketches will be used to communicate design ideas, enhance presentations, and contribute to the development of urban spaces, ensuring an accurate representation of design intent. This role is crucial for bridging the gap between technical design and conceptualization, providing stakeholders with a clear visual understanding of the proposed developments.

This is a contract or job shopper position with flexible work arrangements based on project needs, with potential for extension or future collaboration depending on project outcomes. Billing will be based on actual time consumption for delivering work.

Roles & Responsibilities
• Sketch Creation & Design Visualization:
• Produce detailed and visually appealing urban sketches that capture the essence of design concepts, landscapes, and urban environments.
• Translate concept drawing and design briefs into sketches that are easy to understand.
• Provide quick concept sketches to aid in design discussions, workshops, and presentations.
• Collaboration with Design Teams:
• Work closely with urban designers, architects, and planners to understand project goals and integrate their input into the sketches.
• Accuracy and Detailing:
• Ensure that all sketches are to scale and accurately reflect the intended design details, including street furniture, facades, greenery, and urban layouts.
• Utilize a strong understanding of urban design principles to ensure that sketches align with overall project goals and city planning objectives.
• Adapt sketches based on feedback from project leads and ensure they meet the visual and technical standards required.
• Presentation and Delivery:
• Prepare sketches as part of project presentations, reports etc
• Ensure sketches are appropriately formatted and of high resolution for use in reports, proposals, and other design documentation.
• Consultation & Reporting:
• Regularly report on the progress of sketch work, timelines, and any potential issues that may impact project delivery.
• Ensure that sketches align with project deadlines and client expectations, delivering high-quality work within agreed-upon timeframes.
Qualification & Background
• Must have a degree in Urban Planning/ Urban Design/Architecture/ Landscape Architecture/Fine Arts.
• Preferable candidate/consultant must have comprehensive portfolio showcasing a range of urban sketches, including:
• Conceptual sketches of urban environments.
• Detailed streetscape or architectural illustrations.
• Visual representations of public spaces, buildings, parks, and urban design elements.
• Examples of both hand-drawn and digital sketches, demonstrating versatility in style and technique.
• Proven Experience in Urban Sketching or Design Visualization with minimum 5 years of experience in creating urban sketches for large scale urban planning, architecture or landscape architecture projects.
• General understanding and Experience with large scale Urban Planning or Architectural Projects: Demonstrated ability to visualize and interpret urban landscapes, public spaces, streetscapes, and architectural designs.
• Strong drawing skills, both hand-drawn and digital, with an ability to produce quick, concept-level sketches as well as more detailed illustrations.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-disciplinary teams.
• Time management and project coordination skills to ensure timely delivery of sketches in line with project schedules.
• Previous experience as a Job shopper or contract consultant in urban sketching, design illustration, or related creative roles, showcasing the ability to manage project deadlines, work with minimal supervision, and deliver high-quality results.
