JOB DESCRIPTION – COMMERCIAL OFFICER:
The Commercial Officer shall focus on policy advocacy and data assimilation,
compilation and analysis for sugar and its bye-products, ethanol, cogeneration etc. for
suitable guidance to the Board Members and members of the institution.
Role summary:
The Officer Commercial will be responsible for gathering, analyzing, and interpreting
data related to the sugar industry. This role focuses on supporting the Federation's policy
advocacy efforts, identifying new business opportunities for member cooperatives, and
providing strategic insights to senior management and government stakeholders. The
position does not involve direct sales or procurement, but rather the analysis that can
lead to commercial strategy.
Key responsibilities:
1. Policy research and advocacy:
Track, analyze, and report on government policies, regulations, and legislative
developments affecting the cooperative sugar sector.
Prepare policy briefs, position papers, and presentations to support the
federation's lobbying and advocacy efforts with government ministries and
regulatory bodies.
Monitor policy changes in international trade, subsidies, and tariffs that may
impact the domestic sugar market and recommend corresponding strategies.
2. Market and business analysis:
Compile and analyze data on market trends, pricing, supply chain dynamics, and
competitor activities within the sugar industry.
Conduct feasibility studies and market assessments to identify potential new
business ventures, such as ethanol production, co-generation, or value-added
products.
Develop comprehensive reports and dashboards for senior management,
providing actionable insights into market conditions and potential opportunities.
3. Data compilation and management:
Collect and maintain a robust database of operational and financial data from
member cooperative sugar mills.
Ensure the accuracy and integrity of all data used for analysis and reporting.
4. Stakeholder engagement:
Act as a liaison between member cooperatives, government agencies, research
institutions, and industry associations on commercial and policy matters.
Participate in industry forums, conferences, and committees to represent the
federation and gather relevant intelligence.
Organize and present training sessions or workshops for member cooperatives
on market analysis, policy changes, and business development.
5. Strategic planning support:
Assist in the development of long-term strategic plans by providing detailed
analysis of market opportunities, risks, and challenges.
Forecast industry trends and their potential impact on the cooperative sugar
sector.
6. Training and workshops: Help organize educational events, seminars, and
workshops for cooperative factory officers and directors to improve their skills and
decision-making related to agriculture.
7. Policy compliance: Ensure that member institutions comply with rules and
regulations related to Sugarcane Industry.
Qualifications:
Education: A bachelor's degree in Engineering Economics, Commerce,
Business Administration besides having a sound knowledge of Sugar Industry
and its verticals as well as allied industries.
Experience: 3-5 years of experience in market research, business analysis,
policy analysis, or a related field, preferably within the agricultural, food and
sugar cooperative sector.
Skills:
o Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with proficiency in data analysis
software e.g., Excel, Power Point and MS-Word.
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability
to prepare clear and concise reports and presentations in Marathi, English
& Hindi.
o Knowledge of the cooperative business model and the regulatory
landscape of the agricultural sector.
