Job Summary:

The Wholesale Lending Services (WLS) Control Manager Vice President will be responsible end-to-end execution of Control & Operational Risk Evaluation (CORE) requirements, including control breaks and resolutions, to reduce financial loss, regulatory exposure and reputational risk. The role will be responsible for all control related efforts for the Mumbai WLS Credit Product Delivery team, support the wider APAC WLS Middle and Back Office teams as regional control partner and will be part of the global Control and Continuity Services team. The role will be working closely with the global WLS Business Operations Executive (BOE) team and will engage with local stakeholders such as legal, compliance, risk, audit, and other control functions.

Control Management maintains a strong and consistent control environment through a joint accountability model that aligns managers with each function and region to mitigate operational risk. The team focuses on four areas: Control Design & Expertise, Risks & Controls Identification/Assessment, Issues & Control Deficiencies/Resolution and Control Governance & Reporting.

Job responsibilities:

Support business operations by partnering with the WLS business and regional stakeholders to create best practice solutions and drive process and control enhancements, providing expertise in risk/controls and the development and completion of corrective action plans.
Ownership of and accountability for WLS’s risk assessment structure with respect to Mumbai branch and its continued evolution.
Acting liaison for internal and external audits including compliance related exams.
Understand the local regulatory, compliance landscape and drive control & process adherence and enhancements. Monitor any remediation arising out of changes in regulatory requirements.
Work with local Credit Product Delivery team and other onshore stakeholders to meet and surpass the increasing demands from local regulators and auditors.
Initiate, represent & drive Risk and Control Projects for WLS, in the region and globally.
Rollout training programs to strengthen control environment around the transaction lifecycle, risk reporting, etc.
Represent WLS on Control Forums and provide updates on control issues along with Scorecards, Dashboards, Key metrics, KPIs as applicable.
Assess the impact of changes in the internal policies to WLS. Monitor and review actual and potential exceptions to policy requirements and initiate remedial actions.
Through ad hoc reviews and controls testing, ensure that controls are properly designed, operating effectively, and essential to a proactive risk and control culture that leverages proven evaluation strategies and sound change management protocols.
Partner effectively with colleagues across the firm, business, operations management, legal, compliance, risk, audit, regulators and technology control functions to drive consistent and rigorous operational risk practices and Control programs including: control committees, risk mitigation, key risk indicators, control design and effectiveness evaluation/testing.
Help establish/reinforce control governance and reporting to identify meaningful metrics (key risk indicators) to inform on health of operational risk and control environment; escalate control breaks based on key reporting indicators; and provide input to control committees and forums.
Seek and leverage technology and process improvements to mitigate reliance on manual processes.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years’ experience of relevant risk and/or controls experience or other relevant banking experience such as accounting, audit, quality assurance.
Proficient knowledge of control and risk management concepts with the ability to design, create and evaluate risks and controls in conjunction with business partners.
Ability to design and drive effective action plans to completion within deadlines to mitigate risk and control issues.
Knowledge of the local regulatory environment/experience of local regulatory inspections.
Strong decision-making capabilities and leadership abilities such as influencing senior stakeholders; able to work independently as the key local controls partner in location and partner with the regional and global controls team to support the broader controls agenda.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; interact professionally and confidently with senior stakeholders both locally and globally.
Extremely organized self-starter, able to take the initiative and operate in the group with minimum supervision on a daily basis.
Attention to detail; understanding of risks, how they manifest and how to mitigate them.
Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products (Excel, SharePoint and PowerPoint.
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

Credit lending life cycle/product knowledge preferred
Knowledge of business intelligent tools (such as Alteryx) preferred
