Your role
Radio-Canada Toronto is seeking a videojournalist with sharp editorial instincts, strong autonomy, and creativity. The ideal candidate will have an exceptional ability to find and tell original stories aligned with the editorial priorities of the cultural desk and the Toronto station. The candidate will produce field reports and propose a variety of content for Radio-Canada’s digital, radio, and television platforms.
The successful candidate will be responsible for uncovering original and inspiring stories that stand out, in line with their assignment. These stories may cover topics such as arts, culture, society, and community life. A key responsibility will be to create high-quality content suited to the formats of both regional and national cultural television productions—and beyond. The candidate will also adapt their content for other platforms, including web and radio.
This person will be part of the Toronto cultural desk and work closely with other teams in Toronto and across Ontario, including the digital team, newsroom, and radio programs in Toronto and Windsor, to maximize content impact.
The candidate will work independently or within a production unit to research, gather, edit, shape, and present content. Guidance and supervision will be provided, but initiative and independent judgment are essential and highly valued in this role.
All work must comply with CBC/Radio-Canada’s programming policies and journalistic standards and practices.
Key responsibilities:
Pitch news stories, reports, interviews, and cultural news features.
Write for various media: digital platforms (including apps), radio, television, and possibly social media; adapt content to each platform.
Produce multiple versions and/or formats of their content as needed, depending on the assignment and the various Radio-Canada platforms (website, apps, radio, TV, etc.). This may include presenting the story live on television or radio programs.
Produce videos, text, audio, photos, and other digital elements, including vertically filmed footage, in collaboration with digital production teams.
Take photos and shoot high-quality video footage on location in various environments, as well as record audio segments as needed.
Stay informed about general and cultural news developments in Toronto and Ontario from various sources.
Organize and conduct interviews in both English and French and collect French-language footage.
Determine which elements to include in a story, their order, duration, sequence, and transitions.
Prepare, set up, install, and operate various cameras and auxiliary equipment to ensure optimal audio, video, and technical quality under existing conditions.
Edit recorded elements using appropriate editing systems.
Narrate reports, either on-camera or via voice-over.
Perform journalistic work in compliance with Radio-Canada’s journalistic standards and practices.
Produce a daily video journal, if needed.
Your profile:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent
Five (5) years of journalism experience or equivalent
Strong general knowledge and awareness of regional news and cultural issues on the local and Ontario scenes
Demonstrated autonomy and creativity in story research
Proven ability to shoot and edit audio and video to tell compelling stories
