Position Overview:
We are looking for a skilled Vision Application Engineer to join our engineering team in the development, integration, and optimization of vision systems for industrial automation. As a Vision Application Engineer, you will play a crucial role in implementing machine vision solutions for quality control, inspection, and automation applications in manufacturing. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the systems meet performance and production goals, leveraging your expertise in vision technology to improve manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities:
• Machine Vision System Design & Integration:
• Design, configure, and integrate machine vision systems for a variety of applications such as product inspection, quality control, sorting, and measurement in manufacturing environments.
• Select appropriate cameras, lighting, lenses, and vision software tools for optimal system performance.
• Vision System Programming & Calibration:
• Program and calibrate vision systems using tools like Cognex VisionPro, Keyence, NI Vision, HALCON, or similar platforms.
• Develop and optimize algorithms for image processing, pattern recognition, and defect detection.
• Customize software and vision applications to meet production line requirements and specifications.
• System Testing & Troubleshooting:
• Conduct thorough testing and validation of vision systems to ensure they meet quality and operational standards.
• Troubleshoot issues related to camera calibration, software functionality, lighting, and sensor integration.
• Optimize vision system parameters for different products and production speeds.
• Collaboration with Engineering Teams:
• Work with production engineers, automation engineers, and machine operators to integrate vision systems into existing or new production lines.
• Coordinate with hardware teams to ensure compatibility with other systems (e.g., robotic arms, conveyors, PLCs).
• Participate in root cause analysis for system performance issues and implement corrective actions.
• Documentation & Reporting:
• Prepare technical documentation, including system specifications, setup guides, troubleshooting procedures, and user manuals.
• Provide detailed reports on system performance, improvements, and maintenance activities.
• Document and track all changes to vision system configurations and settings.
• Training & Support:
• Provide training to plant operators, maintenance staff, and engineers on the use and maintenance of machine vision systems.
• Offer technical support for ongoing operations, troubleshooting, and system updates.
• Assist with training material development and knowledge transfer across teams.
• Continuous Improvement:
• Monitor vision system performance and suggest improvements for speed, accuracy, and reliability.
• Stay current with developments in vision technology, tools, and industry trends, applying best practices and innovations to improve manufacturing processes.
Qualifications:
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
Experience:
• 2-5 years of experience working with machine vision systems in an industrial environment.
• Hands-on experience with machine vision hardware (cameras, sensors, lighting) and software (Cognex VisionPro, Halcon, NI Vision, etc.).
• Experience in programming vision systems for industrial applications (quality inspection, measurement, robotic guidance, etc.).
Skills & Competencies:
• Strong knowledge of image processing techniques and algorithms (e.g., edge detection, pattern recognition, object tracking).
• Familiarity with integration of machine vision systems with PLCs, robots, and other automation systems.
• Proficiency in vision programming software and languages such as Cognex VisionPro, LabVIEW, Halcon, or equivalent.
• Understanding of camera calibration, lighting techniques, and lens selection for different applications.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in vision systems and industrial environments.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and optical schematics.
Desired Attributes:
• Experience with advanced vision technologies such as 3D vision, multi-camera setups, and deep learning for vision applications.
• Knowledge of communication protocols like Ethernet/IP, Modbus, or OPC for system integration.
• Previous experience with industrial automation and robotics is a plus.
