Who we need? - VMC Programmer

- The VMC Programmer is responsible for developing and optimizing CNC programs specifically for Vertical Machining Centres (VMCs).

- This position requires deep knowledge of VMC operations, tooling, and programming software, with a focus on producing precise and efficient machining programs.

- The ideal candidate will ensure the smooth operation of VMCs by creating programs that optimize tool paths, reduce cycle times, and ensure high-quality production.

What will a VMC Programmer do?

- Develop, write, and modify CNC programs for Vertical Machining Centers (VMCs) using CAM software such as Mastercam, Fusion 360, or similar.

- Analyze blueprints, engineering drawings, and CAD models to create machining programs that meet specifications and tolerances.

- Optimize tool paths, feeds, and speeds to ensure efficiency and reduce tool wear.

- Assist in selecting appropriate tooling and fixtures based on the material, machining process, and part requirements.

- Provide support for the setup of VMC machines, ensuring correct alignment, work holding, and tooling selection.

Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to program accuracy, tooling, or machine setup.

- Continuously improve VMC programming and machining processes to reduce cycle times, increase efficiency, and improve part quality.

- Collaborate with engineers and production teams to implement lean manufacturing techniques and process improvements.

- Review and adjust programs based on feedback from machinists and production outcomes.

- Ensure all programmed parts meet dimensional and surface finish requirements by working closely with the quality control team.

- Make necessary program adjustments based on quality inspections and feedback to ensure parts meet or exceed customer specifications.

- Participate in root cause analysis for any defects or deviations found in production.

- Work with machinists, toolmakers, and production teams to ensure programs are understood and executed correctly.

- Provide training and technical guidance to machine operators on VMC operations, programming, and setup procedures.

- Communicate effectively with engineers and management to meet production schedules and resolve any machining-related issues.

- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement techniques.

- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.

- Ability to visualize parts and machining operations based on technical documentation.

- Skill in optimizing machining processes, reducing cycle times, and improving production efficiency.

Minimum Education Requirements:

- Bachelors/Associate degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, or a related field.

Proven experience as a VMC Programmer in a manufacturing environment or industrial setting would be an asset.

- VMC Programming certification is preferred.

- Proficiency in CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360) and CNC programming languages (G-code).

- In-depth understanding of Vertical Machining Centres, including machine setup, tooling, and operation.

- Strong knowledge of machining processes for metals, plastics, or other materials.

- Thorough knowledge of desktop operating systems, internal networking servers & cloud computing.

- Excellent proficiency in MS Office - Excel is a must.
