About the Role
As a Vocational Tutor, you will:
Deliver practical and theoretical training in painting, decorating, and plastering.
Teach surface preparation, application techniques, decorative finishes, and interior/exterior systems.
Ensure training aligns with NZQA unit standards, industry expectations, and the NZ Building Code.
Support students academically and pastorally to improve retention, confidence, and employability.
Embed health and safety best practice in all training activities.
Contribute to curriculum development, moderation, and quality assurance.
Actively engage with industry to maintain relevance and credibility.
About You
You will bring:
NZ Certificate in Painting & Decorating (Level 4) or equivalent trade qualification.
Proven industry experience in painting and plastering.
Experience tutoring, mentoring, or training learners (or working towards a teaching qualification).
Strong communication skills and the ability to connect with young people.
A student-centred approach with patience, empathy, and professionalism.
Good IT skills and confidence with administration and reporting.
A commitment to health & safety and quality training standards.
Experience working with Pacific learners or diverse communities is highly valued.
What you will need:
Full, clean driver’s licence.
Site Safe (or willingness to obtain).
Physical fitness suitable for practical trade delivery.
Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development.
