Senior Software developer on Wabtec Flagship Dispatch Product called Precision Dispatch System (PDS). You will work in a fast-paced Agile team environment and be responsible for developing and testing software solutions for new functionality, remediating defects in existing functionality, and contributing to team success.
The software you develop will be destined for services to be deployed in a cloud-based architecture using the latest software development techniques.
You will be an individual contributor on an Agile software team.
Duties And Responsibilities
• You will be part of an agile team developing services for the PDS 2.0 Project
• You will be a software developer responsible for designing, implementing and testing new services using the Java language in the Quarkus framework.
• Write code that meets standards and delivers desired functionality using the technology selected for the project
• Drive world-class quality in the development and support of products
• Engage subject matter experts in successful transfer of complex domain knowledge
• Apply principles of SDLC and methodologies like Lean/Agile/XP, CI, Software and Product Security, Scalability, Documentation Practices, refactoring and Testing Techniques
• Write code that meets standards and delivers desired functionality using the technology selected for the project
• Understand performance parameters and assess application performance
• Work on core data structures and algorithms and implement them using technology chosen
• Proactively share information across the team, to the right audience with the appropriate level of detail and timeliness
Minimum Qualifications
(To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)
• Highly proficient in spoken and written English
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Technology, Engineering.
• 8+ years Software Industry experience
• Effective and productive software engineer in dynamic working environment
• Strong Java programming skills (Java/Jakarta Enterprise Edition 8+)
• Agile Development process
• Kubernetes and container-based deployments
• Cloud Native Architecture
• Quarkus Java framework
• Developing services using JAX-RS : Java RESTful Web services
• Using and managing data using Java Persistent API (JPA)
• Experience with following formats : Jackson JSON processor and/or XML
• Messages services : Kafka
• Config mgmt. tools : GITHUB/GITLAB
• Creating Docker Files and usage or similar Container technology
• Database schema changes using Liquibase or similar
• Debugging developed code
• Defect investigation and reproduction
• Build processes and tools
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
• 6+ years developing microservices using Java Frameworks like Quarkus or SpringBoot or similar
• Authentication/Authorization using Open ID Connect (OIDC) or Java Web Toolkit (JWT)
• Effective remote working skills to learn new environment, domain, product with minimal time
• Self starter and able to set direction for self and others when uncertainty exists
• Proven ability to provide Services & Java mentoring and coaching to others on team
• Highly effective and efficient troubleshooting skills
• Highly effective communications skills
• Technical ownership and drive to complete tasks on schedule
• Seeks to understand problems thoroughly before implementing solutions.
• Identifies opportunities for innovation and offers new ideas.
• Adapts to new environments and changing requirements. Pivots quickly as needed. When coached, responds to need & seeks info from other sources
