Te Tūranga | About the role

Help us keep Tauranga clean, safe, and sustainable. We're looking for a proactive and community-minded Waste Services Officer to support the smooth delivery of our kerbside waste collection services.

In this hands-on role, you’ll work closely with our contractors and internal teams to make sure kerbside services run reliably and meet community expectations. You’ll help manage bin contamination, respond to customer enquiries, and support waste education initiatives. You’ll also carry out field audits, monitor service performance, and contribute to continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

Make sure kerbside collections are delivered consistently and meet service levels

Coordinate with contractors to resolve issues quickly and maintain service quality

Monitor bin contamination and support education and enforcement activities

Respond to customer enquiries and complaints in a timely and professional way

Support the Senior Waste Operations Officer with bin stock and bespoke service management

Keep accurate records and contribute to service reviews and improvement projects

Build strong working relationships with internal teams, contractors, and the community

Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring

A tertiary qualification in Waste Operations, Environmental Management, Contract Management, or a related field

At least 3 years’ experience in waste operations, contractor coordination, or a similar role

Good understanding of kerbside collection systems, contamination management, and waste minimisation principles

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage sensitive customer interactions professionally

Confidence using MS Office and data tools, and quick to learn new systems and software

Ability to work independently, juggle multiple priorities, and adapt to changing needs

A full, current NZ driver’s licence

Willingness to step in and support other team members when needed
