Based in Dandenong South, with regular travel between Watergardens and Eastland shopping centres, you’ll help promote sustainable waste practices through a mix of operational support, tenant engagement, and education.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Waste Support Officer, you’ll play an important part in the smooth daily operations of waste services across two busy retail centres. Your key responsibilities will include:
Overseeing day-to-day waste operations at the shopping centres.
Understanding all waste streams on site—how they’re created, by whom, and how they’re managed.
Suggesting improvements to current waste processes, including more sustainable alternatives.
Helping optimise bin sizes and collection schedules for efficiency and sustainability.
Carrying out daily inspections of bins and storage areas to ensure compliance with waste guidelines.
Promoting correct waste segregation across general waste, recycling, and organics.
Helping boost recycling rates by reducing contamination, using simple, structured processes.
Responding to waste-related issues or emergencies, working alongside cleaning and maintenance teams.
What You Bring
We’re looking for someone who is:
Motivated and eager to learn, with a genuine interest in sustainability.
A clear and confident communicator, comfortable working with tenants, contractors, and centre staff.
Organised, reliable, and detail oriented.
Able to work independently and solve basic problems as they arise.
Familiar with or open to learning about waste management and recycling practices.
Aware of general workplace safety practices.
Ideally holds or is studying toward a qualification in environmental science, sustainability, or education (not essential).
