Job Description

The National Judicial Institute (NJI) is an independent, bilingual, not‐for‐profit organization, based in Ottawa and Montreal, with a mandate to provide continuing education to members of the judiciary across Canada. An acknowledged world leader in the design and delivery of judicial education, the NJI also shares its expertise in judicial training abroad. In its international work, the NJI seeks to strengthen the rule of law through judicial education and judicial reform.
Since its inception in 1988, the NJI has offered in-person programs and a wide range of digital resources designed to foster judicial excellence. As part of its curriculum, the NJI delivers over 70 in-person judicial education programs each year. The NJI’s digital resources include self-study courses, Electronic Bench Books, podcasts, videos, judge-facing tools, and more. Alone or in partnership with courts and other organizations, the NJI delivers the majority of the education provided to judges in Canada.

The NJI is seeking to fill an anticipatory Web and Multimedia Designer position within the Information Technology department for a term of up to 12 months. This position is based in Ottawa, Ontario.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Web and Multimedia Designer works with all departments to create, produce, and maintain engaging web and multimedia content. This includes web graphics, audio/video production, animations, and interactive digital resources, as well as providing technical support, tutorials, and training to internal users and clients.

What You Will Do
Multimedia & Web Production
Design and recommend new website features, multimedia elements, and digital applications.
Research technical requirements and support decisions on new technologies.
Produce and edit audio, video, podcasts, webinars, and interactive content.
Create graphics, edit photos, and develop vector-based designs.
Write scripts, technical documents, and checklists.
Set up and record video, webcast, and podcast sessions.
Provide technical support during webinars and live online events.
Develop tutorials and offer one‑on‑one coaching to staff and clients.
Stay current on emerging web and multimedia technologies.
Administrative & Project Support
Catalogue and archive multimedia assets.
Update workflows, documentation, and project plans.
Collaborate on policies and processes for publishing multimedia content.
Participate in meetings related to web and resource updates.
Maintain the video library and metadata alongside the Library/Information Technician.
Support cost‑benefit analysis for multimedia projects.
Who You Are
You are a creative, tech‑savvy multimedia professional with experience in web design, audio/video production, and digital content creation. You collaborate well, communicate clearly, troubleshoot effectively, and enjoy helping others deliver high‑quality online experiences. You are also curious about artificial intelligence (AI) and eager to explore how emerging tools and technologies can enhance digital design and production.

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
1. Post-secondary degree or diploma in multimedia or web development (or: an equivalent combination of experience, training and education);
2. Minimum of 4 years of experience in Web, graphic, video production and communications;
3. Experience in project management in a multimedia environment;
4. Experience using Content Management Systems (i.e. WordPress, MURA);
5. Ability to write technical documents, such as tutorials and display them in an infographic fashion;
6. Ability to create engaging web site design;
7. Proficiency with HTML/HTML5; CSS/CSS3 style and animations; JavaScript; jQuery; Dreamweaver (or similar code editor);
8. Proficiency with desktop publishing software (i.e. Microsoft Word, Adobe InDesign);
9. Proficiency with graphic software packages (i.e. Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator);
10. Proficiency with video editing software (Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Audition), creating animated infographics;
11. Proficiency using photography, video, and audio recording equipment;
12. Proficiency in Microsoft 365; and
13. Fluent in English (R/W/O).

Desirable
1. Knowledge of Web analytics; and
2. Proficiency in Project Management Software, such as Asana.

COMPENSATION
Compensation is to be determined at the time of hiring, based on the successful candidate’s
experience and profile, within represented salary band 5: $62,218 – $77,772 annually.
