University of the Arts London is seeking a knowledgeable and experienced individual to appoint to the role of Web Developer. Working as part of the digital development team, your core duties will involve building and enhancing the University’s key digital channels. These channels include the UAL website, student portfolio, graduate showcase web apps, and student app.

You will also work alongside the Content and UX teams, improving UAL’s digital platforms by building and maintaining templates and functionality through our content management systems.

You will support the development work streams across UAL’s digital estate and act as a subject matter expert supporting the digital development manager. You will work with several teams across the University to improve our audiences’ digital experiences.

Your profile

As a mid-weight Web Developer, you will have proven experience of delivering full-stack solutions on a variety of digital platforms with an understanding and appreciation of coding best practices and accessibility standards.

You will have detailed knowledge of developing web applications using PHP 7+, JavaScript and other language. You will have a familiarity of developing within a content management system, such as WordPress. Knowledge of a front-end JavaScript framework, such as React or Vue, is desirable.

You are a team player, possessing experience and confidence in explaining technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders of all levels across the university.

Your expertise will be invaluable in helping to transform our digital platforms, so they are compelling for key user groups: prospective students, current students and staff, researchers, alumni and businesses.

Essential skills include:
• Experience working with PHP7+ and MySQL
• Experience working with content management systems, such as WordPress
• Understanding of front-end JavaScript frameworks such as React or Vue
• Experience working within a cross-functional team, including Content designers and UI/UX teams
• Understanding source control and workflow tools such as git, npm, Storybook and Webpack
• Demonstrable knowledge of web and accessibility standards

Desirable skills:
• Understanding of testing frameworks such as Jest, PHPUnit or Cypress
• Understanding of CI/CD tools such as Circle CI, GitHub Actions or Jenkins
• Knowledge of Squiz Matrix CMS
