Welder/Fabrication Tradesperson

💰 $3,360 - $5,376 (Est.) 📍 Kalgoorlie

Job Description

RDO every fortnight and enjoy a 3-day weekend.
Overtime & Allowances
$100,170 - $107,228 + Super (based on skills/qualifications)

Join our team of 4,000 energetic employees working across WA to supply and manage water, ultimately benefiting the lives of our communities and environment.

When our workplace spans across 2.6 million square kilometres, the career options are endless.

Considering one outside of Perth can expand your future employment opportunities and offer you a better quality of life as a Welder/Fabrication Tradesperson at Water Corporation in a permanent position located in Kalgoorlie.

What the role will involve.

If you are a Welder/Fabricator who is confident working in a hands‑on, flexible environment, this role gives you exactly that.

While you hold strong fabrication skills and a solid understanding of welding processes, most of your work won’t be in a workshop.

In fact, this position is predominantly field‑based, travelling across the region and potentially the state repairing and maintaining Water Corporation’s steel water mains, including iconic infrastructure like the CY O’Connor Pipeline.

In the workshop, you will mainly perform MIG welding, but out in the field, your day‑to‑day welding will primarily be Flux‑Core.

To succeed, you will need a Certificate III in Engineering – Heavy Fabrication qualification.

You will be working out of an MR truck fitted with a welder, often paired with an Operator, completing pipe repairs, leak fixes, and preventative maintenance.

There is a bit of fabrication involved, but most of your time will be spent out on the pipeline where your “office” becomes fields, paddocks, open country, and a different view every day.

One day you could be in Wiluna, the next in Norseman. There is also the opportunity to spend time in other areas such as Northam, teaming up with other welders for banding work.

This is a role for someone who enjoys teamwork, thrives on variety, and likes having real freedom in how they manage their day.

The Hiring Manager is highly flexible, encourages development, and trusts the team to self-manage, no micromanaging here!

Why it beats working FIFO

If you are a FIFO welder thinking about getting your life back, this is the kind of role that makes the decision easy:

Sleep in your own bed most nights. No camps, no weeks away, no missing family events.
Less hours, more balance. Plus, you will enjoy an RDO every fortnight.
Your “worksite” is the outdoors, not a cramped workshop or hot site shed.
Standby roster options if you want extra earning potential.
No one breathing down your neck. The team is trusted to run their own day.
Training provided. Anything you need, Water Corporation will organise it.
Strong career pathways. Recognised industry training, development opportunities, and a structured career plan that is hard to match.
Supportive teamwork culture. Great friendly helpful crew, and people who have your back.

Real benefits that matter

9-day fortnight where you can enjoy a 3-day weekend each fortnight!
Two well-being days each year to do whatever you need to do to feel good
Access to long service leave pro rata after 3 years of service
Take advantage of our co-contribution superannuation scheme. Receive a 12% employer contribution and enjoy an additional 2% employer co-contribution when you elect to salary sacrifice 2%.
Purchase additional leave of up to 12 weeks or work 4 years at a reduced salary and take the fifth year off as paid leave
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural and ceremonial leave of up to 5 days so you can maintain your cultural connection and wellbeing.

Key skills and experience:

Fabrication Trade certificate (Certificate III in Engineering – Heavy Fabrication and your Certificate III Boilermaker qualification).
Valid ‘MR/HR’ Licence
Relevant High-Risk Licenses
Demonstrated experience in working in a team environment.
Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health requirements including hazard identification.
Ability to work autonomously and part of a team to ensure operational and maintenance outcomes are achieved.
