About the organisation

He Waka Tapu is a Kaupapa Māori organisation who have been supporting individuals and the community for over 20 years. He Waka Tapu works to increase the health and wellbeing of whānau.

Our Mandated Service provides individual and group non-violence programmes.

We are a family court accredited stopping violence provider here in Christchurch and Ashburton for those mandated by the courts to attend stopping violence programmes.

About the role

We are seeking a Whānau Kaimahi to work within our mandated team in a full-time capacity (40 hours per week).

The role involves managing a caseload of tāne and/or wāhine referred to our non-violence programmes. You will complete assessments alongside wāhine or tāne to understand and identify their treatment needs and create a treatment plan. These roles also prepare and facilitate individual and group programmes during the day, evenings, and periodically on the weekends.

Our programmes

- Te Whakarauora I Te Mana Wāhine (wāhine only)

- Riaka (tāne only)

- Te Whāriki Whakamana (tāne only)

These programmes are tailored for wāhine and tāne aged 18 and over. The programmes help people to examine unhelpful patterns of thinking and beliefs. and strengthen interpersonal and emotion regulation skills. The goal of these programmes is to reduce the risk of family harm and keep whānau safe.

Skills and Experience

We are looking for people who are passionate about supporting, challenging, and inspiring our whaiora to initiate and maintain positive changes in their lives for the benefit of themselves and their whānau.

Ideally you will have:

Experience working with Māori and within a Kaupapa Māori environment.
A background in family harm reduction or a passion for keeping whānau safe.
Experience in facilitation, including developing, planning, and preparing group and individual programme sessions to enable optimal participation and effective learning.
Experience in creating safety plans.
A high level of time management and organisational skills.
A high level of detail orientation when completing assessments and creating plans and programme content.
Alignment to He Waka Tapu values and core principles and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Be living a life free from violence.
A current full driver’s licence.
