Wordpress Developer (Canada)

We're looking for a reliable and detail-oriented WordPress Developer to take ownership of the ongoing maintenance, updates, and troubleshooting of our WordPress websites. This role is not about building websites from scratch — it's about keeping our current sites running smoothly, securely, and efficiently.

You'll be the go-to person for handling day-to-day issues, plugin or theme updates, performance checks, bug fixes, and small content changes as needed.

This is a part-time contract position with the possibility to become permanent in the future.

What you will be doing:

Monitor and maintain existing WordPress websites

Develop and optimize responsive designs to ensure a seamless display and user experience across various devices (desktop, tablet, mobile)

Perform regular updates of WordPress core, themes, and plugins

Troubleshoot and fix site issues including layout problems, plugin conflicts, or performance lags

Ensure backups, security patches, and uptime are consistently maintained

Optimize websites for speed and performance

Provide technical support for internal teams or clients regarding website-related issue

Document fixes and maintain a change log

Qualifications & Requirements:

Must-Have:

Solid experience working with WordPress (core, themes, plugins)

Proficiency in PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

Familiarity with cPanel, FTP, and common hosting environments

Experience with security and backup tools (e.g., Wordfence, UpdraftPlus)

Ability to troubleshoot plugin conflicts and resolve website errors

Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving

Comfortable working independently and responding quickly to issues

Nice to Have:

Experience with staging environments and version control (e.g., Git)

Knowledge of SEO basics and best practices

Familiarity with page builders like Elementor or WPBakery

Basic knowledge of Google Analytics, Tag Manager, or Search Console

Location:

This position is 100% remote; however, preference will be given to candidates based in Canada.

Salary:

The hourly rate range for this position is $45/hr to $60/hr CAD

Salary offered will be based on skills, experience and geographical market rates.
