Youth Worker in Secondary Schools (YWiSS)
Mentor Tamariki | Strengthen School Engagement | Support Whānau
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Youth Worker to join our YWiSS team at ATWC, Otahuhu. In this part-time role, you will support secondary school students to engage with their school community, address wellbeing and achievement needs, and build strengths, resilience, and problem-solving abilities. You will work closely with young people, their whānau, and schools using a strength-based, multi-systemic approach.

About the Role
As a Youth Worker in Secondary Schools, you will:
Work in partnership with young people to develop individualised goals and plans for school engagement
Use the Check and Connect model to track and monitor levels of engagement
Collaborate with schools, whānau, and community organisations to enhance educational and wellbeing outcomes
Implement strength-based strategies to support problem solving, skill building, and competence enhancement
Identify and utilise resources to assist young people and refer to other agencies where appropriate
Maintain high-quality professional relationships with students, whānau, schools, and colleagues
This role focuses on supporting Pacific, Māori, and new immigrant students while contributing to a multi-disciplinary school and ATWC team.
What We’re Looking For
You will bring:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Youth Work, or equivalent experience
Proven practice working with young people in educational or community settings
Knowledge of Pacific, Māori, and new immigrant students and families
Understanding of adolescent development, especially regarding mental health
Full and clean NZ Driver’s Licence
Professionalism, initiative, and strong interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently while contributing to the wider team
Fluency in a second language (preferred)
