JOB DESCRIPTION
Processes, tests and reports the results of patient specimens, while maintaining safety procedures, quality control, proficiency testing and maintenance of laboratory equipment to maintain certification of laboratory according to CLIA guidelines.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Performs testing and identification procedures on serology and microbiology specimens submitted to the laboratory.
2. Performs procedures necessary for the accurate accessioning of specimens from receiving to reporting; prepares media, reagents, stains, etc.; document results; and performs quality control procedures to ensure certification of laboratory.
3. Ensures safety practices and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
4. Participates in proficiency testing.
5. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Experience and Training:
Education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in a Biological Science, or in a job related field of study. One (1) year of work related experience.
Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of standard software applications. Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments and the general public. Must be able to distinguish colors.
Physical/Environmental Requirements:
Ability to lift, push and carry up to 25 lbs., unassisted.
