The Primary Division teaching assistant (TA) works in collaboration with and at the direction of the teachers. TAs help to implement a responsive curriculum and lesson plans for highly capable 1st-grade students, provide supervision, and maintain the classroom.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Support classroom teachers with the implementation of a cohesive, culturally responsive curriculum for highly capable 1st-grade students.
• Be proactive in learning the school’s mission and core values, as well as student names and their family connections.
• Stay current on school-wide information through faculty portal postings and weekly communications.
• Attend regularly scheduled faculty, division, and team meetings, and take minutes as requested.
• Engage in ongoing self-assessment and set professional goals that demonstrate a growth mindset.
• Meet with the Primary Division Teaching Assistant Coordinator monthly.
• Communicate regularly with classroom teachers concerning student goals and progress.
• Implement instructional strategies that support the teachers and align with the school’s philosophy.
• Accompany groups, classes, or individuals when traveling outside the classroom (e.g., field trips, office visits, or class transitions).
• Inform the appropriate teacher or administrator promptly about any concerns regarding students.
• Work with students individually, in small groups, or as a whole class as directed.
• Serve as a substitute when assigned by the Division Head.
• Assist with administrative and classroom tasks such as copying, mounting displays, and preparing instructional materials.
• Support teachers before and after the school year according to the work schedule established by the administration.
• Maintain classroom supplies and assist in ordering materials.
• Take all necessary precautions to protect students, staff, equipment, and facilities.
• Serve as a regular recess monitor, implementing rules and reporting notable student behaviors.
• Monitor student arrival and dismissal procedures.
• Maintain appropriate standards for student behavior and discipline.
• Attend and participate in required school events, training sessions, and meetings as designated by the administration.
• Follow all guidelines, procedures, and policies in the Employee Handbook
• Other duties as assigned.

• Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent. A college degree or currently working towards a bachelor’s degree in education is preferred.
• At least one year of working with elementary-age learners, preferably in an educational setting.

• Familiarity with social-emotional learning (SEL) approaches.

Working Conditions
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds in connection with job duties such as assisting with classroom setup or moving materials.
• Ability to stand, sit, and move comfortably throughout classrooms and school hallways for extended periods.
• Ability to climb stairs, navigate uneven surfaces, and ****** students as needed between locations within and outside school buildings.
• Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including inclement weather.
• Evening and weekend work may be required at times.

Position Details

This is a temporary, non-exempt (overtime eligible), non-benefits eligible position for the 2025-2026 school year only. This position follows a 10-month work schedule. The estimated start date of this position is as soon as possible and the estimated end date for this position is June 15, 2026. The salary range for Evergreen School teaching assistants is $38,955 to $48,612.77 per year, depending on years of experience; the salary will be pro-rated for this position.
