SUMMARY

A Friar Seminar teacher is a critical member of the Academic Support Team, helping students new to Bishop Lynch adjust to the demands of high school and become familiar with the BL community.

A Friar Seminar teacher is responsible for the implementation of the goals of Catholic education as outlined in The Holy See's Teaching on Catholic Schools (Archbishop Michael Miller):
• Inspired by a Supernatural Vision
• Founded on a Christian Anthropology
• Animated by Communion and Community
• Imbued with a Catholic Worldview
• Sustained by Gospel Witness

Qualified candidates will be driven and inspired by the mission of Catholic schools to form young men and women in a high school setting "who will be good citizens of the world, loving God and neighbor and enriching society with the leaven of the gospel, and who will also be good citizens of the world to come, thus fulfilling their destiny to become saints" (Miller 20).

JOB EXPECTATIONS
• Be aware of current educational research on the challenges facing high school students
• Demonstrate understanding of Executive Function Skills
• Collaborate with other Friar Seminar teachers to develop meaningful, relevant lesson plans
• Communicate regularly with freshmen teachers to share key lessons and strategies being taught
• Check in frequently with transfer students assigned to Friar Seminar and communicate with teachers as needed
• Identify and meet with at-risk students on a regular basis throughout the semester
• Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing procedures in accordance with the Bishop Lynch Student Handbook
• Provide appropriate and timely feedback on student work by maintaining accurate and complete records of students' performance and growth
• Establish and maintain effective communication with parents, students, administrators, and colleagues
• Complete all required reports, records, and documents in a timely manner
• Participate in Academic Support team meetings, faculty meetings and parent meetings
• Support the Learning Center by facilitating and proctoring extended time testing.
• Engage in ongoing professional development
• Serve as a positive role model for students and support the school's mission statement
• Participate in school events to support students, peers and the BL community
• Participate in school liturgies and assemblies
• Support and actively engage in the Bishop Lynch House System as a mentor or co-mentor
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Teaching and Learning and the Assistant Principal for Academics

QUALIFICATIONS
• A bachelor's degree in a content area relevant to high school curriculum standards, including 12 college credit hours in education
• Comprehensive knowledge of and familiarity with Bishop Lynch High School policies, procedures, culture, and history
• Experience working with diverse student populations preferred
• Relevant teaching experience in a classroom, preferably in a Catholic school
• Motivation to help students grow academically
• Experience and interest in developing innovative uses of technology in the classroom
• Commitment to being a supportive, respectful, and energetic colleague
• Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior while maintaining a professional manner
• Ability to demonstrate poise, empathy, tact, and diplomacy
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Must be able to discern among competing priorities, separating what is essential from what is non-essential
• Working knowledge of or experience with Blackboard (or other LMS) is a plus
