Job Description
Under the supervision of the Controller, the Accountant will perform routine account reconciliations; analysis of financial information; and will prepare financial reports based on their analysis. The Accountant will work as a part of the Finance staff to prepare year-end transactions such as: Depreciation schedules, Inventory Valuations, and other balance sheet items. Accountant will research accounting issues. Accountant must have the ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure to produce accurate results. Accountant will ensure that appropriate accounting control procedures (GAAP) are being utilized.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: (will include, but not be limited to)
This position focuses on compiling and analyzing financial information to prepare entries for general ledger accounts and accurately documenting business transactions. Key responsibilities include performing monthly bank reconciliations for all organizational accounts, preparing depreciation schedules, and completing monthly fixed asset reconciliations. Additional duties involve assisting with month-end financial closings and ensuring the timely preparation and delivery of management reports, analyses, and commentary. The role also includes preparing and reviewing budgets, revenue and expense reports, payroll entries, invoices, and other accounting documents while maintaining compliance with accepted policies and procedures. Collaboration with internal and external auditors to facilitate audits is required, along with strict adherence to HIPAA regulations. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
A thorough understanding of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles—including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)—is essential. Experience with financial and accounting software applications, particularly MIP Fund Accounting, is preferred, as is familiarity with accounting practices for publicly funded, non-profit health organizations. Strong written and verbal communication skills are crucial for effective interaction with co-workers, employees, patients, medical professionals, vendors, and external agencies. The ability to work both independently and under supervision, follow instructions, and manage multiple tasks efficiently is vital.
Proficiency in using computers and office equipment, gathering and summarizing information, preparing reports, and executing complex financial tasks is required. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel, including the ability to create formulas and use linked data—and the ability to operate a 10-key calculator are also necessary. This position demands a high level of confidentiality, discretion, and compliance with HIPAA privacy regulations. Success in this role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment and to work additional hours when needed to meet deadlines. Regular and reliable attendance is essential, along with a genuine commitment to supporting the goals and success of the Health Center.

Education And Experience
Pattern I: An Associate’s Degree or equivalent in accounting and a minimum of three years of accounting experience
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with Native American population in a healthcare setting 2+ years preferred.
Physical Requirements
This position requires walking, standing, and sitting for prolonged periods; climbing stairs, step-stools, etc.; stooping, kneeling, crouching, balancing, and reaching; pushing, pulling and lifting up to 30 pounds; raising objects overhead; manual dexterity for operation of computer and phones; hearing, talking, and good verbal and written communication skills; repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers; subject to outside environmental conditions of heat and cold; and walking on uneven ground. The position requires the ability to safely operate and drive a motor vehicle.
