At Lyttelsoft, accountants do what accountants are trained to do:
prepare financial statements and tax returns, review and balance bookkeeping work, and talk to clients like real humans.

What You’ll Be Doing
Financial Reporting & Tax
Preparing and reviewing annual financial statements
Preparing income tax returns for individuals, trusts, companies, and other entities
Reviewing, reconciling, and balancing bookkeeping prepared by others
Identifying and resolving accounting and tax issues
Ensuring compliance with NZ tax legislation and professional standards
Client Advisory & Communication
Working directly with clients to explain financial results and tax positions
Responding to queries clearly, practically, and on time
Offering proactive insights (when it adds value — not just noise)
Building strong, long-term client relationships
Practice & Systems
Working efficiently in Xero and cloud-based systems
Maintaining tidy, accurate workpapers
Meeting deadlines without last-minute heroics
Contributing ideas to improve how we do things
What We’re Looking For
Essential
Qualified or near-qualified accountant (CA / CPA or equivalent)
Public practice experience
Strong technical accounting and tax knowledge
Confidence reviewing and balancing Xero files
Great attention to detail
Clear, professional written and verbal communication
Nice to Have
Experience across companies, trusts, and individuals
Client advisory experience
Ability to manage a client portfolio with minimal supervision
