Job Description
We’re looking for a capable and detail‑driven Accountant to join our Finance team.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced accountant who enjoys ownership, technical depth, and partnering across a diverse business.
About the role
In this role, you’ll have full ownership of the Group’s fixed asset accounting and play a key part in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of our financial reporting. You’ll work closely with the Financial Controller, wider Finance team, Support Centre stakeholders, and stores across the network.
You’ll be responsible for managing the fixed asset register, capitalisation processes, month‑end asset journals, and capex reporting, while also driving continuous improvement in systems, controls, and processes.
What you’ll be doing
Owning and maintaining the fixed asset register, including additions, disposals, transfers, and impairments
Managing capitalisation and ensuring correct treatment between repairs and maintenance vs capex
Preparing month‑end asset journals (depreciation, amortisation, impairments)
Performing monthly PPE balance sheet reconciliations to a high standard
Ensuring compliance with NZ IFRS, particularly NZ IAS 16, and supporting external audits
Partnering with Support Centre and store teams to ensure asset information is complete and accurate
Monitoring and reporting capex spend against budget, providing insight and highlighting risks
Leading continuous improvement in fixed asset processes, controls, and documentation
Providing support on selected tax‑related tasks as required
What you’ll bring
Strong technical accounting expertise, particularly in fixed assets and NZ IFRS
Proven experience managing fixed asset registers and capex processes
High attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and compliance
Confidence working as a subject matter expert and partnering with a wide range of stakeholders
Solid analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to assess issues and propose practical solutions
Experience working with accounting/ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, MYOB, Xero or similar)
Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (reconciliations, lookups, pivot tables)
A CA or CPA qualification (or working towards) is highly regarded
Some understanding of NZ tax (income tax, GST, FBT) is an advantage
Why you’ll love working with us:
We genuinely care about our people, and we’re committed to helping you thrive, at work and outside of it. You’ll enjoy:
Mitre 10 team member discounts

Birthday leave (your special day off, on us!)
