Job Description
Kern Energy is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Accountant I to join our team. In this role, you will compile financial data to support senior accountants in preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other essential financial reports. Your responsibilities will include analyzing current costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to help predict future financial performance. Job Function
• Work on projects/matters of complex duties with minimal supervision.
• Understanding the principles and standards of accounting is essential for accurate financial reporting and compliance or Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Daily, weekly, and month-end reporting for certain manually entered product movement accounting entries and count journals for various petroleum storage locations and product reclassifications.
• Collect, validate, and maintain accurate production data daily, including input feedstocks, output products, quantities, and quality specifications.
• Financial Analysis - collection, research, special projects, and cost control reporting working under the direction of the Accounting Manager.
• Collaborate with other departments and team members to warrant compliance to ensure effective financial management.
• Accurately process daily transactions.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements related to desk responsibilities.
• Maintain accurate and organized records, supporting documentation, and audit trails.
• Ensuring compliance with regulatory and accounting standards.
• Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Knowledge Skills
• Knowledge of refinery processes, operations, and production accounting principles.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to multitask and work under time constraints.
• Ability to analyze financial data, detect anomalies, and interpret compliance requirements.
• Ability to learn quickly and produce results, sometimes under pressure due to impending deadlines.
• Strong analytical abilities, initiative, and problem-solving skills necessary to adapt to changes in dynamic refinery operations.
• Strong attention to detail to identify errors or discrepancies in financial records and compliance documentation.
• Strong organization and computer skills including proficiency in data analysis tools and software, such as Microsoft Office Platforms (Excel, Word, and Outlook), SAP, or refinery-specific systems.
• Ability to interact with all levels within the organization.
• Ability to speak effectively, individually, and before internal and external personnel groups.
Education/ Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
• 1-3 years experience in accounting, with a focus on cost accounting or production accounting.
• Oil & Gas or Manufacturing knowledge is a plus.
